5. What is Aleppo Soap?
Aleppo soap is thought to be one of the oldest soaps made. It is thought to date back at least to the 8th century AD and comes from Aleppo, Syria. Traditionally, it is made in a huge vat, poured out on the floor to harden and then cut and aged for 7-12 months. This makes it a very hard and long lasting soap. My soap is made using a cold process method, poured into molds, cut and aged for one year. The only ingredients are olive oil, laurel berry oil, distilled water and lye. It has a naturally earthy scent. It can be used on the face, body, hair, shaving and would also be safe to use on baby skin.
6. What are the benefits of Aleppo Soap?
It is reported to be very soothing, moisturising and hydrating as well has having some antibacterial, anti-fungal properties. It is thought to reduce inflammation. At the same time, it is gentle on the skin. It comes in different concentrations of laurel berry to olive oil ratios to meet different skin care needs.
7. What concentrations of Aleppo Soap are available?
Aleppo soap percentages are determined by the proportion of olive oil to laurel berry oil. For example, 1% is only one percent laurel berry oil and 99% extra virgin olive oil. While 40% is 40% laurel berry oil and 60% olive oil. The higher concentrations are best for more oily and/or sensitive or problem skin types while the lower ones are better for drier skin types. I have made 1%, 5%, 10%, 20%, 30% and 40% concentrations so you should be able to find one that works for your skin type. Typically, 20 % is the most commonly used
